I went to bed last night with a vision. Hope was flowing from my heart. My picks from Tuesday had already been decided. The AL let me down but my NL picks came through and the Marlins played like true champions, knowing I had them as my DT. The day finished for me and I had a strong 4 points, I looked at your matchups. The Cubs had once again failed you in a big way. The Dodgers of course came through and the Indians bested the O's leaving you at 3 points with still the Giants/Padres game to be decided.
Oh. Of course. You had selected the world champs, who have played like anything but this year. So all my hope rested on the Padres. The Fucking Padres. They have taken joy this season, along with the Mets, in taking skinz away from me. As I checked my phone in bed, with the score tied 2-2 going into the 7th, I needed the Padres on MY side tonight.
So I prayed. I prayed harder than I have ever prayed before. My knuckles were white and my brow began to bead with the sweat that flowed from my mind as fast as my words did to our savior. I wept like Jesus and I began to scream to the sky, speaking in foreign tongues asking our maker for one last miracle. I had 2 and a half innings for the Padres to net just one... tiny... run.
The night was restless. I had nightmares of Giants chasing me with large spiked clubs while monks in cloaks tried to protect me from the dark images my mind and soul were tormenting me with. I woke up in a panic. It was 3 am and my night terrors had continued now for hours. But I was awake now; Awake and confused. The bed was soaked with sweat and urine, the sheets drank my fluids as I slumbered like Sith blood spilling on the hot sands of Tatooine. In a fury of desperation I ripped the phone from its charger and refreshed the MLB scoreboard....
Now I don't know if the lord spoke directly to Chris Denorfia or if he just guided his bat on his sharp line drive RBI single to left field in the bottom of the 7th. But I do know that last night, a boys dreams got answered. A boy... became a champion.
