With the last two contests being decided with just a few days left of the season, the importance of tie breakers was finally realized this year. Over 178 days of baseball we went into the final Sunday for the first time with me up 89-88 without tie breakers set.
Nick had given up a 14 skin lead he had with just 6 weeks or so to play and now saw himself facing defeat for just the second time in his illustrious skinz career. An epic comeback by Chris just to get to this point, it seemed like destiny for him to close this one out. Having come so close the last 2 years, would he rise to the challenge or collapse and fail like the Mets do every year?
I knew I should have taken the Braves. I had a feeling that the Tigers were going to lose that game. But wanting to take King Felix I switched my Braves to the Tigers to satisfy my secondary AL selection. The other games were decided as well for that final Sunday and placed in envelopes for a Primary and Secondary tie breaker. I needed to win either the daily picks or the first tie breaker to win the skin and Nick would have to win both. As Effie would say, the odds were in my favor.
The fix was in. Nick must have called the Red Sox and Mariners and told them to suck nuts because that is exactly what they did. In a tragic year that saw the Tigers lose on this final Sunday, The Kid's life cut short too early, and Dave Roberts take a shit on the integrity of the game by benching Rich Hill in the middle of a perfect game, Chris's historic run to just his second Skinz title was ended as we watched the last two games of the season go final.
So congrats to you once again sir. I look forward to an exciting October before the real baseball season starts. The hot stove is right around the corner...
