As I sat in my living room last night and received a congratulatory text from Chris, I wondered how this season finished the way it did. I got up to an early lead in April and before I knew it, I was down by twelve in mid-May. Whether the California sun altered my choosing ability or the Padres game plan seeped into my brain, it seemed like a rather large hole to climb out of so early.
Then June happened and I found myself on the other end of railroad tracks, going into the 4th of July with a sixteen run lead, a lead that I never imagined myself losing. Chris, the good sport he is, rarely complained about his deficit, just continually picking away and never giving up hope. His persistence paid off as he started July off losing by sixteen and proceeded to win eighteen straight skinz, to take a two run lead by the 24th of July.
Again, I never imagined I would be down again, let alone losing my historic lead all in one month. Though, as skinz has taught us over the years now, it's that nobody is ever out of this thing until it is finally over.
The summer continued and as September approached we both changed leads multiple times, even coming to a head at the end of August being tied 70 a piece. This September was going to one that neither of us would ever soon forget. The month continued with both of us changing leads, hoping against hope that we could finally institute one of our tie-breakers or had a no-holds barred cage match to truly see who the victor of Skinz was this year.
In the end though, it came down to the Cubs and the kid, one team playing above their pay grade for yet another month in this season and a talented youngster, who still can't seem to figure out how to pitch outside of his home park. So even though this season has come to end, an end that saw the first ever appearance by the month of October, we rejoice in the fact that skinz will live on in 2016, a brand new season that cannot get here soon enough.
So when early April approaches and one of us knows we are forgetting something but can't quite put our finger on it, just remember, it's probably Thursday and the Cardinals are playing the Brewers. A day game that is just out of your reach and though you are bummed you can't use them as your DT today, you can take solace in the fact that it's a Thursday in April and Skinz is back in action.
Congrats my friend. Great season. I will give you your skinz prize bext time I see you.
